This research is a follow-up study concerning Japanese standardization for establishment of educational environment for articulation, which the second language(L2) learners" evaluation results in high school can be reflected in the teaching and learning of college. It is also the research of reading class for CEFR and JF standard B1 learners. This research is especially focused on Japanese reading classes utilizing raw materials which are characteristic of 15 different topics.
This study was conducted in two significant ways. One is the research on the possibility of the raw materials of Japanese reading class for B1 learners. The other is the proposal of the model of Japanese reading class utilizing raw materials.
Three Japanese education experts to have subscribed to the Asahi Shimbun for two months selected the appropriate newspaper articles based on the selection criteria of target data. After developing the reading materials with 15 articles that are similar to marketed reading books, I performed experiment class involved 48 students of two universities over second semester in 2014 and first semester in 2015.
As a result, the Internet newspaper editions raw materials issued for elementary and middle school students in Japan are appropriate for B1 learners to learn and I confirmed that they are the attractive materials that can cause a variety of concerns and interests.
Based on these results, I propose Japanese reading teaching models using Project-Based Learning method, total of three models, which are an hour instructional model, two hours teaching models.
