The nineteenth-century in England was regarded as remarkable age in the political, economical, and ideological context. New economical system as the result from the Industrial Revolution formed working-class and middle class based on a cash relationship. Especially, this new middle class changed the relationship of power in politics and economy, and made their own ideologies. Middle, and upper-class women also began to demand their long-deprived rights, and they achieved their goals for several decades. However lower-class women were excluded from this movement. They also are oppressed by the middle-class's ideologies. This paper intends to explore these condition of lower-class women's lives in the context gender and class oppression. Although the author, Elizabeth Gaskell was a middle-class and well-educated woman, she tried to show these lower-, working-class women's status of the sexual Others in the nineteenth- century. Gaskell represented this suppression in Mary Barton, Ruth, Silvia's Lovers, and gave us opportunity to reconsider their existence in history and meaning of literary representation.
