This study was intended to gain a basic data for a promotion of disabled students, by analyzing the result of health examination of 899 students in 8 special schools and 21,262 students in 22 general schools (elementary schools, middle schools and high schools) located in Daegu from April 2003 to June 2003. In all ages, students of general schools were bigger than ones of special schools in a height, weight and sitting height. As the result of Rohrer``s Index, students of special schools had more overweight and underweight than general schools. In a group of students with visual impairments, there were boys of 36.7% and girls of 55.3% in special schools, while there were boys of 14.5% and girls of 16.5%. In the group of students with visual acuity, special schools had boys of 8.0% and girls of 8.1%, while general schools had boys of 41.7% and girls of 41.9%. In terms of periodontal disease, there were 30.4%~75.0% by each age for boys and girls in special schools. On the other hand, general schools had 0.7%~15.4% for boys and girls. This showed that the periodontal state of students in special schools was worse than ones in general schools(p<.001). Through health checkup by urine test, it was founded that 4.7% boys and 8.1% girls had the disease in special schools, but that 1.3% boys and 0.9% girls had the disease. Students of special schools had the higher rate than ones of general schools(p<.001). In terms of a hepatitis antigen positive prevalence, girls of special schools were 2.7% but ones of general schools were 0.9%(p<.05). In terms of the hepatitis antigen negative prevalence, there were 53.7% of boys and 53.9% of girls in special schools, while general schools had 73.3% of boys and 68.8% of girls(p<.001). In terms of disease of vision, hearing and allergy, boys and girls of special schools showed the higher rate than those of general schools. In terms of disease of skin, backbone and chest, boys of special schools had the higher degree of disease(p<.05). Particularly, for the allergic disease, special schools had boys of 39.4% and girls of 40.4%, while general schools had boys of 0.5% and girls of 0.6%.
