The purpose of this research is to study the real effect of an important habit of our society, familism. For that purpose, the correlation between familism due to `individual action reference` and familism due to `social custom` was investigated. According to the research in general, higher the age and lower the educational level, the greater is the familism due to individual action reference. This kind of family-centered behavior presents a meaningful correlation with the social realm. For instance, the more intense one is in family-centeredness, the greater was the tendency to think that they must get married, and also to consider parents to be an important part in a marriage. But on the whole, the least amount of people considered parents to be an important part in a marriage, and familism can be found greater among the married than the singles, and among those who have children above the kindergarten age. In this regard, it must be said that familism in our society is more children-centered than parents-centered. This kind of child-centered familism is of great concem in the way it correlates to quasi-family oriented selfishness or regional selfishness that hurt the public. It has been shown that greater the familism, the greater is the quasi-family selfishness tendency that places importance on school connections or regional connections, and has actually been found that instead of solving problems through public principles, there is a tendency to rely upon relatives or quasi-family like groups such as the alumni organization. Moreover, not only is there a correlation between familism with regional selfishness, which is often considered nimby situation, but the ones with quasi-familism tendency had greater regional selfishness. Therefore, this study result shows that our society`s familism is inclined toward family selfishness rather than ethical familism.
