The princial objective of this study was to investigate the selection of nesting trees by the Woodpecker(Dendrocopos kizuki, D. leucotos, D. major, Picus canus). This study assessed from Mar. 2012 to Oct. 2013 in the area around Gyeoryong Mt. National Park. Survey results, Woodpeckers seemed to prefer broadleaf trees rather than needleleaf trees, Live Tree/Dead branch and Dead Tree rather than Live tree. Although size of nest tree should be considered for interspecific size, When researcher estimated trees that can available nest resources, it should be at least 10 m in height of tree, 3.5 m in nest height, 38 cm in breast height, 27 cm in diameter at trees. As the size of species increased, both height of trees and height of nests tended to increase. The directionality of nest of Woodpeckers was not shown, Woodpeckers were found that they prefer open space. For protection and management of woodpecker habitats, it is considered that removal of dead wood due to forest management and formation of simple forests of needleleaf trees should be avoided, The openness of the entrance to nest, and diameter of more than 30cm should be secured.
