This study aimed to understand men"s knitwear by allegorical expression features. The allegory features observed in men"s knitwear were analyzed from the works of 15 designers, who participated in Milano, Paris, and London Collections, for 20 seasons, from 2001 to 2010 among. A lot of 1,630 photos of knitwear were selected for analysis. The following findings are the allegoric features of men’s" knitwear, based on the allegorical strategies by Craig Owens. First, ‘appropriation of images’ was prioritized, in decreasing order as ‘styles’, ‘forms’, and ‘materials’. Second, ‘site-specificity’ was classified into the specificities of ‘time’ and ‘space’. Particularity of time was expressed through retro style. The observed spatial features included general locality "traditional patterns" and "ethnicity" by region. Third, ‘strategies of accumulation’ was classified into repetition, juxtaposition, overlap, and fragment. The repetition and the juxtaposition used colorful Jacquard, intarsia, or colorful stripes and structured Jacquard pattern. Overlap was conveyed using thin, loosely woven, or lace structures, appearing as it several items were adorned. The fragment was depicted by transforming the structure as an unfinished linking form or connecting patches like patchwork. Forth, ‘pictogrammatical nature’ was observed as ‘linguistic conceits’ through typography or brand logo, using only letters as the image features. Fifth, ‘confusion of genres’ was presented as the concept of ‘transformation’ and ‘mixture’.
