In this paper, reasons why ‘Ge(個)’, widely used in the Chinese language, serves as a special grammatical function in sentence structures were considered in terms of grammatical ization. The research findings are as follows:
First, types of sentence structures including ‘Ge(個)’ were subdivided and the character istics of the types were analyzed. The paper categorized types of sentence structures serving as other grammatical functions, not as a numeral, into 3 types as follows, and looked into each type"s characteristics. The 3 types can be categorized as follows:
A: V 個 NP, B: V 個 AP, C: V 個 VP.
Next, changes and meanings of grammatical functions that are shown as grammatic alization of "Ge(個)" progresses were analyzed. As grammaticalization of ‘Ge(個)’ progress ses, it came to serve as various grammatical functions, from a numeral to a postposition. Hence as its original measurement (計量) function became weak, while subjectivity (主觀 性) became strong, it came to serve various functions expressing ‘emphasis’, ‘base’, etc.
