This paper aims to determine the social status of rural women`s empowerment and leadership in three villages within the Khulna district of Bangladesh. Women empowerment and leadership are the complete concept. It is a multi-dimensional approach and it covers environmental, social, political, and economic aspects. This paper used questionnaires and focus group discussions to shed light on the question if non-governmental organizations(NGOs) have increased women`s empowerment in Bangladesh. Women`s empowerment and leadership was determined and here women sometimes have with economic empowerment, but that progress with women`s overall empowerment has been limited. This reading discloses that personal income and rural empowerment of rural women are the most important factors determining the women empowerment and leadership, where in Bangladesh it is found to have a lower social status in reality. Among ten pre-selected points relating to women empowerment and leadership, the respondents were able to recognize discrimination with respect to domestic empowerment and gender, community participation and leadership, discrimination during disaster, disaster preparedness and after disaster, inheritance of property rights, timing of marriage and divorce rights. However, there is a difference which is recognized as dowry during marriage in the name of gift in marriage (based on religious customs), low valuation of own work, leadership and gender partiality in terms of age and education. This paper focuses on formal education, disaster relevant matters, empowerment and leadership in domestic as well as in the community, marriage and spousal isolation. These findings directed to the conclusion that development agencies interims of NGOs should make logical efforts to increase women empowerment and leadership in rural in respect of increasing their literacy levels, providing useful information through different media for increasing awareness level, making understand the value of all gender during disaster by facilitating and establishing women`s programme in the locality in rural Bangladesh.
