In this paper, we investigated and analyzed patterns of change in Japanese accustomed accents using Japanese accent dictionaries of five different NHK editions for Japanese language education.
Looking at the pattern of change, the flattening(Heibanka) of the accent was the most prominent and 143 cases were seen, and the opposite pattern, that is, only 11 cases of non-flattening(Hiheibanka) was characterized. There are 48 patterns of the latest version of the accent back to the 51st edition, the pattern returned to the principle of loan word, that is, the change to -3 type is 45 cases, the remaining 82 cases are the latest version and there is a distorted pattern. In this pattern, if only the 1st accent is considered, changes to -3 type and head height type(Atamadakagata), examples in which the accent changes due to phonological factors, etc., apply.
The factor of the change is that the flattening(Heibanka) of the accent first had many types that fit the principles of loan words but it is thought that because the consciousness of foreign languages fades with the times and it is easy to pronounce, it becomes flattened from time to time. Changes to head height type(Atamadakagata) are related to problems of user`s consciousness, but there will be a connection with the tendency to place an accent on the first syllable that is often in the original language (English).
