Measures to protect children who are not capable of caring for their guardians (hereinafter referred to as "protected children") are becoming socially problematic. Japan is making a series of efforts to solve the quality problems of children with mental retardation. In this context, the purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial environment in the child care facilities in Japan based on the User Benefit Criteria and to identify the characteristics of environmental support provided to the residents, The method used in this study was to visit selected cases and then analyze the results in a qualitative way. The subjects of this study are infants and toddlers facilities (small pine hopes house, hope house) and juvenile nursing homes (samkwangsang) established by the Samgwang project team in Japan. As a result of this study, the house of hope, which is a nursery facility for infants and toddlers, showed a high level of physiological maintenance aspect. It is designed to keep the space as comfortable as possible considering the characteristics of environmentally sensitive infants and toddlers. On the other hand, Samgwang - su, a juvenile nursing facility, showed high social convenience. This was designed to promote active interaction with people considering the developmental characteristics of adolescents. This is not a uniform structure but a space design considering the emotional and developmental aspect of the child. The physical environment is important to develop the child as a healing tool for the children to be healthy adults.
