This article conducts a study on the election theology in Deuteronomy. The Hebrew verb rxb is the most important word that reflects the election theology. rxb occurs 31 times in Deuteronomy. Its appearance in Deuteronomy is the most frequent when compared to the other OT books(146x in OT). Our interest is in the passages where God is the subject of the verb. 29 out of the total 31 cases matches this condition. In 5 passages, God chooses Israel as the holy people of God and endows them Canaan. God will elect a specific place of worship in that promised land(10x). And in that place which God will choose, the Israelites give their offerings, celebrate the festivals and hold their courts(11x). Every man of Israel is ought to come to this place and worship the Lord. Therefore, this place is called as the central sanctuary. Furthermore, God elects a king that will rule Israel and in this central sanctuary, God chooses priests who will serve him. It is interesting that the election of Israel as a nation and a king that will rule Israel, the election of a place in the promised land and the priest that will serve at that place occur in pairs. This shows that the election idea in Deuteronomy purports the realization of a theocratic rule. God elects kings and priests as agents of this theocracy.
