The purpose of this study is to examine the attitudes of the netizens to the Korean kinship terms of address with gender－asymmetric characteristics and to suggest an improvement plan. The study in Chapter 2 analyzes the gender - asymmetric characteristics of the Korean kinship terms of address such as ‘abeonim (아버님), eomeonim (어머님), jang-ineoreun (장인어른), jangmonim (장모님), doryeonnim (도련님), seobangnim (서방님), cheonam (처남)’. In Chapter 3, it examines the attitudes of female netizens based on the internet cafe data. In Chapter 4, the differences of kinship terms of address among Chinese, Japanese, North Korean and Korean are examined, and alternatives are proposed to improve the Korean sex－symmetric terms. Through this process, it became clear that the Korean kinship terms of address have the problems of gender asymmetry and female discrimination when compared with neighboring countries’ languages. Numerous netizens are hoping to solve these problems, and in the process, they call on the national institutions such as the National Institute of the Korean Language to set up alternatives and present them as new norms of kinship terms of address. It is important to establish a new norm in order to correct the gender discrimination of the Korean kinship terms. But in order to settle it quickly, it is even more important for men to abandon the benefits they have, and to encourage them to help achieve gender equality for Korean society. It emphasizes the need for a willingness to break the male－centric notion that has dominated Korean society for a long time and open to a world of equality and freedom for men and women together.
