Leisure and Recreation Association in Korea (LRAK) has been strenuously exerting the great amount of efforts to help and educate the leisure and recreational leaders in Korea for more than 14 years since its first establishment of leadership education system in 1979. The number of leaders who have participated the program from the LRAK amounts to staggering 11,009, which includes 8,896 certificate recipients for intermediate recreational leadership by the LRAK. However, the technocratic modern society has been demanding for leisure and recreational leaders more versatile to cope with the changing concept of the leisure and the peoples way of life. In this vein, the LRAK is planning to start the thematic leadership training program for the advanced recreational leaders in Korea. The purpose of this study was to investigate the need for the thematic recreational leadership training program in a qualitative manner and to formulate the curriculum content based on this need for each thematic course. This study will probably offer the significant opportunity for both LRAK and researchers in this area to understand the need for the advanced thematic recreational leadership training, and to anticipate the possible results of the program.
