In this study, the purpose and significance of publishing Eojehunseoryu of King Yeongjo are examined focusing on Eonhaeseo with its classification into printed books and manuscripts. Some of Eojeryu that Yeongjo left was translated in Korean, as his thoughts couldn"t have been conveyed if it had been written only in Chinese characters. There are around 70 books of Yeongjo’s Eojeseo, of which 11 books were translated in Korean. In the early Eonhaeseo, Eojeryu was normally translated in Korean for the crown prince and the eldest grandson of the King and Eojeryu in its translated form was gradually extended to servants of the royal court and ordinary people. The ones that are in the form of the manuscript and the only editions simultaneously have a common feature in the form found in King`s Copies. The reason for translating Eojeryu into Korean is to give a lesson. It is rational to view that the ones in the manuscript form were made for the crown prince, the eldest grandson of the King and women in the royal court. The printed books were made for servants in the royal court and ordinary people.
