In this study, we examined Korean ethnic identity based on independent art, Dansaekhwa. We conducted color analysis on Dansaekhwa focusing Koreans’ color sensibility, which affects the foundation of Korean ethnic identity. The purpose of this study is to understand the significance of Dansaekhwa representing Korean contemporary art through the correlation between Dansaekhwa and Koreans’ color sensibility, which is proposed by the views of chromatics. We constructed visual data by the quantitative analysis of color using the Korea Standard Color Analysis (KSCA) program based on digital images of Dansaekhwa. As a result of analyzing the color of Dansaekhwa and Koreans’ color sensibility based on this, the correlation proving that Koreans’ color sensibility is found to be deeply affecting on Dansaekhwa. In order to study and reorganize the identity of Korean contemporary art Dansaekhwa, it is required to be concerned continuously. In addition, this study analyzed Dansaekhwa in relation to Koreans’ color sensibility. Therefore, it is expected to be helpful in understanding Dansaekhwa in the future.
