As the paradigm shifts into various fields such as education, medical care, finance and the public by the 4th industrial revolution, digital textbooks are spreading for smart learning according to the Ministry of Education Notice. Thus, this study emphasizes that color affects learning, and aims to propose a color analysis and improvement plan of digital textbooks UI design elements. To do this, we first investigated the previous research and related literature. In addition, we surveyed teachers and students who had experience using digital textbooks. As a result, it was found that the use of appropriate colors affects the learning, the importance of UI design principles and colors suggested by experts, and the lack of consciousness about design and color in user survey. Especially, most publications were designed without a common standard for color of digital textbooks. Therefore, it is considered that the inappropriate use of color is an important factor affecting learning and needs improvement. In addition, considering that it is the transition period for the utilization and dissemination of digital textbooks, it is expected that several of colors will become more active in UI design elements of digital textbooks which are gradually expended from 2018.
