Place-names are very important cultural heritage and useful source for linguistics. Bonseong-ri has many place-names that reflect shapes of the nature. This paper aims to collect place-names, and examine the existing documents and to fill the gaps by interviewing the formal inhabitants. There are three villages in Bonseong-ri. Jungdon is Sino-korean, Gandaemaenggol and Beolmaenggol are pure Korean. Bonseong-ri has eight valley names. The first part represents well-known objects in the area or certain geographical features. The last part is mostly ‘-gol’ or ‘-sil’. Mountain-passes are named in like manner. The all four names are composed of first part which indicate objects or features of the area and ‘Gogae’ appears as the last part. And five field names could be identified. The first parts represent the shape of nearby village, attributes and shapes of the field or some specific object and location. The elements like ‘-deul’, ‘-bada’, ‘-geori’ or ‘-dimi’ appear as the last part. Four mountain names exist around Bonseong-ri. The first part reflects the shape and location of the mountains or of the neighboring mountains. The last part is usually ‘-san’.
