Human beings have been naming their residential areas where they want to stay rooted. Therefore, naming the residential areas has a long history, and there are various methods of naming them. For this reason, the largest amount of vocabulary we have is place names. This study collected many place names by performing field works at seven registered villages in Doan-myeon. Among many others in the data, this paper examines origins of the 39 natural villages. The place name survey of Doan-myeon was conducted in Kim (2010c), in which origins or etymologies of some place names remain ambiguous. In order to supplement the previous research, this paper focuses especially on the names of the natural villages. Studies on the series of place names - that are surveyed, organized, and identified in terms of origins and etymologies of natural villages - allow us to know not only language and cultural aspects of our ancestors but also the way they recognized objects. In that sense, this study can be more than meaningful.
