Purpose: This is a descriptive study examining the relationship between nurse managers’ facilitative communication as perceived by nurses and nurses’ organizational commitment, job satisfaction and empowerment. Methods: The subjects of this study were 298 staff nurses at K Hospital of C University in Seoul. Collected data was analyzed using the SAS program through t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson’s correlation coefficients, and Stepwise multiple regression. Results: 1. Nurses’ organizational commitment and job satisfaction were higher under nurse managers perceived as facilitative communicators. 2. There was a positive correlation between nurse managers’ facilitative communication and nurses’ organizational commitment; nurses’ organizational commitment, job satisfaction and empowerment likewise had a positive correlation. 3. As to major factors affecting nurses’ organizational commitment, job satisfaction showed an explanatory power of 42.7%. As to major factors affecting job satisfaction, organizational commitment showed an explanatory power of 42.7%. In addition, as to major factors affecting empowerment, satisfaction with the nursing job showed an explanatory power of 18.2%. Conclusion: Nurse managers must facilitate communication. Education and training for improving nurse managers’ communication skills are suggested.
