The objective of this study is to seek for the clinical․educational implications to improve youth welfare by understanding the role of parenting attitude in shaping of a career identity in middle school students though their academic achievement: Focused on gender differences. Fourth year data of 2,092 seventh graders (1,098 male and 994 female students) collected in Korea Children & Youth Panel Survey 2013(KCYPS) by National Youth Policy Institute in Korea were utilized. The results of the analysis demonstrated that the perceived parenting attitude had different effects on the academic achievement and then on the career identity by gender. Also, gender differences were found in scores of all three variables. That is, the effect of the parenting attitudes on the career identity was fully mediated by academic achievement in boys only. The significance of this study lies in that the student perceived parenting attitude was researched in relations to the career identity differed by gender; specifically student measuring parental attitudes in term of parents' acceptance, psychological control, and behavioral control. In conclusion, parents have immense impacts on their children's academic achievements during the adolescent period and subsequently on their potential career selection in the future. Some limitations of the present study as well as further suggestion were discussed.
