Although Wittgenstein did not say much about art and also lie at the center of his philosophical concerns, it is worth noticing the fact that his life was connected in many ways with artistic activities and that what he talked and did has had a great effect upon contemporary arts. While Wittgenstein with special flavour took part in artistic practices such as music, literature and architecture, he put forward his specific points of view in his two contrastive positions of philosophy: the earlier and the later philosophies, each of which represents the character of linguistic philosophy. In his earlier philosophy we can find the fact that the aesthetic attitude is one of pure will-less contemplation in which the subject's consciousness is filled by a single perceptual image. Therefore what is of value in art can, from his point of view, never be spoken about. On the other hand, however, his view of art in his later thought has been changed: many forms and/or things of arts are various in their senses depending upon the contexts under which the word itself. Thus how and why Wittgenstein claims to be so needs to be considered in more detail.
