입원 환자에서 심장 및 신장 이상을 동반하는 경우는 비교적 흔하게 볼 수 있으며 매우 다양한 임상양상을 보인다[1]. 일반적으로 단일기관(single organ) 이상에 비하여 이환율과 사망률이 매우 높은 것으로 보고되고 있으나 통일된 명명 및 진단, 분류법의 부재로 인해 심장 신장 동반이상의 역학이 잘 알려지지 않았음은 물론 체계적인 연구를 통한 병인기전의 이해 및 진단 치료법의 개발이 지연되어 왔다. 이에acute dialysis quality initiative의 지원을 받아 각 분야의 전문가들의 합의 회의를 거쳐 공식적으로 심장과 신장 동반이상의 진단 및 분류법이 발표되었다
