Park Eun－Sik(1859~1925) is a prominent historian who was contributing to the anti－Japanese press and Patriotic Enlightenment Movement to protect national sovereign rights in the period of the Great Empire of Korea(대한제국). After Korea was usurped its sovereignty by Japan, he exiled outside the country and devoted himself to the Korean Independence Movement and writing on Korean history including 'Hanguk Thongsa(한국통사)' and 'Hanguk Dongnipwundong Jihyeolsa(한국독립운동지혈사)'. In these two works, he not only attacked Japan's policies of aggression but at the same time sought to provide spiritual support for the independence movement, asserting that the soul of the Korean race must be preserved. In Seogan－do(서간도), the first place of exile, Park Eun－Sik wrote several books; 'Daedonggodaesaron(대동고대사론)', 'Dongmyoengseongwang－silgi(동명성왕실기)', 'Balhaethaejogeongukji(발해태조건국지)', 'Mongbaegeum－thaejo(몽배금태조)', 'Yeongaesomunjeon(연개소문전)', 'Danjosago(단조사고)', 'Myeongnimdapbujeon(명림답부전)' and used these books for the textbooks of nationalism education in the schools including 'Dongchang School(동창학교)'. Later, while he was wandering in the Continent of China, such as Shanghai and Beijing, he wrote and published 'Ahn Jung－Geun Jeon(안중근전)', 'Lee Sun－Sin Jeon(이순신전)', 'Seongsaesoseol Yeongwungru(성세소설영웅루)' including the famous works 'Hanguk Thongsa(한국통사)' and 'Hanguk Dongnipwundong Jihyeolsa(한국독립운동지혈사)'. And then, he started to write 'Daedongminjoksa(대동민족사)' which stopped without its conclusion. Furthermore, in Yeonhaeju(연해주), Russia, he wrote 'Lee Jun Jeon(이준전)' and translated 'Geumsa(금사)' and 'Balhaesa(발해사)' into Korean. In short, Park Eun－Sik is a representative nationalist historian who left a lot of valuable works in Korean history, devoting himself to the national movement for the Korean independence in several places both at home and abroad.
