This study investigated how English news broadcasts using listening matrix activities can have an effect on student's listening comprehension accomplishment, and if listening matrix activities show different results between high and low students according to Toeic listening scores. The subjects were 14 students at a university located in Dae-jeon city, who registered in Media English listening comprehension class. There were utilized lesson format, listening activities modified of Lund's listening taxonomy, and students' reaction journals as methods. The result shows English news broadcasts using listening matrix activities improved students󰡑listening comprehension, and especially, the improvement of lower level students was higher than that of higher level students. Both groups of students mentioned pre-listening activities and listening matrix activities as the factors of listening comprehension improvement. Also, both students pointed out self-confidence for English news broadcasts, knowledge of real world as the advantage of this class. This study suggests English news broadcasts can be applied to all level students if the degree of news difficulty is adjusted well, and practical listening activities rather than abstract ones will help students' listening comprehension.
