The purpose of this study was to investigate in‐service science teachers’ understanding of force and motion concepts after a week‐long professional development opportunity at a large, public Midwestern university. In this study, views of learning physics were investigated using Q methodology. Previous studies (Ramlo, 2008a; Ramlo, 2008b) found that engineering‐technology students in a first semester college physics course posses a variety of views about their learning of physics and that these views are related to their learning of physics concepts. The in‐service teacher professional development study is especially important considering issues in the United States related to out of field teaching in subjects such as physics (Escalada & Moeller, 2006). The findings should assist those providing professional development opportunities to in‐service science teachers. Previous studies investigating teachers’ views about learning science with Q methodology were not found in the literature.
