S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) synthetase or exogenous addition of SAMenhances the production of actinorhodin, one of pigmentedantibiotics found from Streptomyces coelicolor. In order todiscover a novel compound as a signal molecule to produceactinorhodin instead of SAM, several compounds weresynthesized based on the relationships between structures ofthe SAM analogues and their actinorhodin productivities.
