The 21th century is characterized as localization, globalization, digitalization, multi-media, interactive arts, and the deconsrtuction of the boundaries. In response to the rapid social changes, universities in South Korea have increased interdisciplinary graduate programs in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. The concepts of dance and arts have been deconstructed with the development of digital multi-media. Therefore, it is necessary for Dance Departments in South Korea to reconstruct curriculums to catch up with the recent academic trends and to reinforce national, educational competitiveness in the age of globalization. This paper aims to provide basic materials for specializing Dance Department programs by collecting, analyzing, and evaluating informations on the academic degrees and curriculums at the Department of Dance, University of California, Riverside in the U.S. I suggest that interdisciplinary curriculums and faculty system, with minor, double-major, and undergraduate programs, can be ways to upgrade the status of Dance Department in academic communities.
