This paper analyzed "X" in the "거무X하다" type of Korean Color Adjectives such as "거무께하다, 거무스레하다, 거무끄름하다, 거무데데하다, 거무칙칙하다" and explained how to form the words. There have been many previous studies analyzing of "X" in the words only as root derivational suffixes when "X" is a syllable repeat, such as "데데, 칙칙," but in some studies have analyzed "X" a root. We analyzed ‘X’ in "거무X하다" type words from the perspective that the syllable-repeated "X" is not a root derivational suffixe, but is rather a root. The reason for this is that 1) the word "X-하다" exists, such as "데데하다, 칙칙하다" and the "X" is analyzed as roots, 2) the meaning of ‘X’ is transparently reflected in the dictionary meaning of "거무X하다" type words. Therefore, "거무칙칙하다" is analyzed as a compound word of "검다" and "칙칙하다". However, the reason why the word type was decided to be "거무칙칙하다" rather than "*검칙칙하다" was because 1) in the vocabulary of Korean color adjectives, there are far more the words composed by the four-syllable complex roots and "-하다"(such as "거무스름하다, 푸르스레하다") than the other type words, 2) the "거무X하다" type words are a big part of the black color adjectives. Therefore, the tendency to match the word form is strong. Meanwhile, with the analysis of "거무칙칙하다" as a compound word, I proposed that the dictionary definition of "거무칙칙하다" should also be changed to ""거무스름하면서 칙칙하다."" which""검다"" modifies ""칙칙하다."" Therefore, this information should need to be reflected in the Korean dictionary and the explanation that "거무칙칙하다" is derived from "거무칙칙" should be omitted.
