This study aims to analyze noun-derived simile markers tus, mankhum, yang and chelem in Korean from the perspectives of grammaticalization, corpus analysis, and pragmatics. The defective nouns of the simile markers tus, mankhum, and chelem are grammaticalized into more dependent elements in morpho-syntax, bound to the host except yang. This article also shows that the degree of grammaticalization affects the usages of each item of the simile markers based on outcomes from the corpus data. This study will describe how the speaker"s rhetoric and pragmatic strategies impose the impact on the discourse recruiting the noun-derived simile markers.
