Tense is a category that expresses time reference with reference to the moment of speaking. Tenses are usually manifested by the use of specific forms of verbs, particularly in their conjugation patterns. The main tenses found in many languages include the past, present, and future. Some languages have only two distinct tenses, such as past and nonpast, or future and non-future. Russian has the dichotomous distinction of past vs. non-past. However, some languages have nominal tense, which marks temporal information in noun forms. With regard to nominal tense, Russian does not have morphological marking for tense. Yet, Russian verbal nouns and deverbal nouns (including participles that function as nominals) express temporality, i.e., time information that differs from tense and aspect. which are marked by morphemes. This paper investigates the characteristics of nominal phrases with temporal information without tense marking. Most of all, this research examines process nouns including verbal nouns and deverbal nouns, especially, participles that serve as nominals. Moreover, predicate nominals are also examined with a special attention to case marking, whether in the nominative or in the instrumental.
