The purpose of this paper is to analyze the annual plans of the five grades 3-4 elementary English teachers’ guidebooks in terms of (1) development of the sense of word order, (2) development of the sense of sentence structure, and (3) how to draw learners attention to the form corresponding to the communicative function. As a result, the following are suggested. First, for the development of the sense of word order, it is recommended that transitive sentences with a subject and an object that can be easily recognized by young learners rather than sentences with a be-verb should be placed at the beginning lessons. Second, for the development of the sense of sentence structure, verb-oriented practices and collocating sentences with a similar structure are recommended. Third, it is strongly suggested that activities be designed to be able to draw learners’ attention to the sentential constituents corresponding to the communicative function and to keep the focus of attention during the activities.
