In this work a tensile characteristic of 0.2mm thickness polypropylene (PP) sheet subjected to indentation of a virgin and a brunt wedge (apex angle of α=42°, tip thickness of w=6㎛, 20㎛) was experimentally investigated. In order to reveal the effect of mechanical condition, such as a notched depth and profile of root surface on the breaking behavior of the half-cut PP specimen, the in-plane uni-axial tensile test was carried out by varying the indentation depth and the tensile velocity. Through the experiments, the breakage behavior of scored (half-cut) zone was characterized with the indentation depth, the tip thickness and the strain rate. The crazing by the brunt wedge decreases the tensile resistance and the burr elongation for the indentation depth larger than 0.9, whereas the work-hardening by the brunt wedge increases them for the indentation depth less than 0.8. When using the virgin wedge and/or under a high strain rate larger than 0.01 s-1, the breakage of half-cut zone of PP sheet became brittle, namely the tensile resistance and the burr elongation were decreased.
