Purpose: This study was aimed to understand common meaningful pregnancy experiences of married immigrant women in Korea through qualitative meta-synthesis. Methods: Qualitative meta-synthesis was performed using the method suggested by Noblit and Hare. Findings of 14 qualitative studies were synthesized to describe 120 married immigrant women"s experiences of pregnancy. Results: The married immigrant women"s most common experience during pregnancy was “being born again”. Four concepts related to the women’s adaptation emerged: (1) fear related to unplanned pregnancy, (2) conflict arising from a prenatal culture different from that in the mother country, (3) poor prenatal care in unfamiliar health care systems, and (4) reborn as a real Korean. Conclusion: The results of this study illustrate the need for Korean cultural adaptation to precede pregnancy experiences for married immigrant women and suggest a culture adaptation program to include pregnancy health care education.
