This study aimed to identify historical changes in the distribution and dwelling functions of GOSIWON in areas that have a large concentration of such facilities which is called GOSICHON(GOSIWON dense area). To clarify these changes, we using advertising information in GOSIGE, and categorized the historical development of GOSIWON into three periods. Additionaly we determined the distribution of GOSIWON in Seoul by the advertisin information.
First phase, using advertising information in GOSIGE, we divided the transition of GOSIWON by period. The first period is from 1960 to 70s. We clarify that is the occurrence period of GOSIWON. Second is from 1980 to 90s. That is the establishment period of GOSIWON. And after 1995, we refer to that is the transformation period of GOSIWON. The second phase, using GIS tools, we identify the distribution of GOSIWON in Seoul. Initially, GOSIWON were scattered mainly in old downtown areas. Subsequently, GOSIWON became distributed throughout Seoul. On the other hand, from around 1975, lots of GOSIWON began to concentrate in the Sillim-dong of Gwanak-gu, and such areas which dense of GOSIWON became known as GOSICHON.
