Language is a tool of communication, a container to hold culture, and at the same time a mirror of social life. Neologism is a magnifying glass reflecting social change, especially in the year, with the emphasis on the raw nature of the data, the creation and development of the new words can be called a manifestation of the development and creation of the new words, which reflects the actual appearance of social life and word innovation over a year in a speedy and timely manner.
‘Chinese Neologism in 1991’ is China’s first annual book dictionary, edited by Woo Geun-won. The publication was one of the important harvests of the compilation of the Chinese-language dictionary, which has received widespread favorable reviews from academia. This paper studies Chinese neologism in 1991, and also identifies specific situations in which the syllables of the newly coined words are applied, and thus analyzes the classification statistics and quantitatively the 335 newly coined words that appeared in 1991 to help people understand the dynamic changes of the newly coined word during the year.
