This study analyses Leslie Marmon Silko’s Ceremony to address its narrative and hybridity. Silko is one of the main writers leading the first renaissance of native American literature. She was born by a Laguna Pueblo mother and a white father. Her mixed-blood autographical background is reflected naturally in her works with hybridity through narrative elements such as themes, characters and general storytelling. The mixture of verse and prose style is her ancestry’s(Indian) and universal oral storytelling tradition. Ceremony is a case in point: Tayo’s story is featured with poetic forms of chants, songs, myth, folktales embedded in the author’s prose accounts of his memories. Hybridity is the key element to keep stories and ceremonies strong through changes and transitions. Tayo, a half-breed main character, is cured by Betonie’s ceremony contributing to his awakening and growth by realizing that hybridity is a source of power and strength like the spotted Mexican cattle with “light brown speckles” that he searched and found to achieve his uncle’s vision successfully.
