오랫동안 건물의 기본 구성 요소로서 단차(계단)는 공간을 연결해주는 기능뿐 아니라 미적 욕구를 충족시켜 주었다. 거장들은 단차를 단순한 수직 통로로 건축에 종속시키는 것에 그치지 않고, 이를 독립적인 생명력을 지닌 조형 원소로 보았다. 형식미와 질서미를 함께 담고 있는 단차는 건축미를 강화함으로써, 사람과 건축이 ‘눈’으로 대화할 수 있게 하는 매개체이다. 과학 기술의 지속적인 발전에 따라 단차의 기능적 가치는 점차 에스컬레이터와 엘리베이터로 대체되고 있지만, 이로 인해 오히려 단차의 시각적 가치가 주목받고 있다.
본 논문의 연구 대상은 단차의 형상이다. 관련 문현을 수집하여 관련 정보를 얻는다. 인지 과학적, 신경미학적 관점에서 단차 인지되는 시각적 구조를 해석하고 보편적인 원리를 요약한다.
단차의 가치를 다음과 같은 과정을 통해 이해하려고 시도한다. 연구의 1장에서는 본 연구의 배경 및 목적, 연구 범위 및 방법을 기술한다. 2장은 신경과학적 관점으로 심미적 판단과 미의 일반적 구조로서 단차의 대칭 원리를 분석한다. 3장은 두뇌 시각 피질 작동메커니즘의 관점에서 단차가 인지되는 시각적 구조를 해석한다. 4장에서는 앞 두 장의 이론적 지식 내용을 기반으로 단차의 형상이 가지는 시각적 아름다움의 구성 요소와 단차 형상 호감의 구조를 분석한다. 단차에게 왜 호감을 느끼는지에 대하여 여러 이론적 시각으로 접근하는 것은 아주 실용적인 의미가 있다. 이런 원리를 파악하면, 미적 기준에 맞는 단차 디자인을 더 쉽게 만들 수 있을 것이다.

As the basic element of the building, the stairway can not only meet the needs of multi-functional space, but also meet the aesthetic needs of people. Not merely the performance of simple architectural functions, the stairway also has independent thinking and vital architectural elements,1) which can not only generate language, but also carry the beauty of form and order required by architecture. Stairway is also one of the mediums for dialogue between people and architecture with “eyes”. With the continuous development of science and technology, the functional value of stairway is gradually being replaced by escalators and elevators. But also because of this, the visual value of the stairway has been greatly sublimated.
The object of this paper is stairway shape. Obtain information by collecting and related literature, and explain the structure of visual cognition from the perspective of cognitive science and neuroaesthetics, and summarize its general principles.
We try to understand the value of stairway shape through the following process: The first chapter of the paper analyzes the meaning, research content and research methods of this article. The second chapter analyzes aesthetic judgments from the perspective of neuroscience and the symmetry principle as a general law of beauty. Chapter 3 explains the visual cognition of the stairway form from the perspective of the operating mechanism of the visual cortex of the brain. The fourth chapter analyzes the elements of the visual beauty of the stairway shape and the reasons for the favorable impression of the stairway based on the theoretical knowledge content of the first two chapters. From different theoretical perspectives, it is easier to make design works that are more in line with people’s aesthetic standards by analyzing and researching the realistic meaning of people’s favor for certain stairway shapes, understanding and mastering the aesthetic rules and principles.
