Background/Aims
Peritoneum is most common site of metastasis from advanced or recurrence gastric cancer. Standard chemotherapy for stage IV gastric cancer patient is 5-FU and platinum based chemotherapy but due to the peritoneal-plasma barrier, cytotoxic agents could not effectively delivered from systemic circulation to the peritoneal cavity. We designed new regimen of intraperitoneal paclitaxel combined with systemic S-1 plus oxaliplatin for advanced or recurrent gastric cancer patient with peritoneal metastasis, so phase I clinical trial for dose escalation was conducted.
Methods
Histologically or radiologically confirmed peritoneal metastasis from advanced or recurrent gastric cancer patients were indicated. The chemotherapy regimen was comprised with 8 cycles of intraperitoneal paclitaxel on day 1 and day 8, combined with 80mg/m2 S-1 for day 1 - 14 plus 100mg/m2 Oxaliplatin for day 1, repeated every 21 days.
