Purpose: The time using smart devices is constantly increasing in recent. Using to smart devices for a long time with wrong posture makes people cervical pain (CP), instability, and abnormal muscle tone. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationship of cervical instability, deep neck flexor (DNF) strength and endurance, ROM, and muscle tone. Methods: Fifty subjects with CP participated in this study, and they are physiotherapist at W Hospital in Daejeon, those who applied to participate in the research voluntarily were selected as candidates for the selection criteria. According to the instability test, 25 subjects were assigned to the instability group and control group. All subjects take the instability test at the first to divide each group. Instability group was positive for instability test. Neck disability index (NDI) scale, range of motion (ROM), muscle tone, DNF strength and endurance was measured for their relationship. DNF strength and endurance were measured in cranio-cervical flexion test. Muscle tone of the upper Trapezius (UT), SCM, and Suboccipital muscle (SO) was measured using a contact soft tissue tone measuring instrument. Statistical significance level was set to 0.05 Results : There were significant differences in the flexion, extension, and rotation of the CROM between the two groups (p<0.05). Muscle tone shows a significant difference in SCM, UT, and SO between the two groups(p<0.05). DNF strength and endurance show a significant difference between the two groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: We found there was a significant increase in CROM and the muscle tone and decrease DNF strength and endurance in instability group. It means cervical instability need to DNF strength and endurance. We could recommend DNF exercise for cervical instability in a clinical environment.
