In this study, the aim is to analyze TV medical dramas to find out the characteristics of the use of doctor proposal strategies in Japan and Korea. The result indicates that in the two countries, the most frequently attested pattern is the type of “doctor’s statement of his/her intention”. And whilst the least frequently attested pattern is the type of “offering of medical information”. On the other hand, the two countries remarkably differ in terms of expressions of the type of “consideration for patients”. Depending on the content of medical care, the strategies used by doctors in both countries vary. In the content where a doctor suggests postponement of watchful waiting and treatment, uses of a strategy significantly differ between Japan and Korea. In Japan, doctors generally use the strategy of the type of “doctor’s statement of his/her intention” but in Korea, doctors quite often use the strategy of the type of “consideration for patients”. Hospitalisation, and discharge, doctors in Japan predominantly employ the strategy of the type of “consideration for patients” and those in Korea the strategy of the type of “doctor’s statement of his/her intention”. These results indicate that in the two countries, It could be seen that awareness within the medical community and the use of the doctor's strategy had an effect on each other.
