This study tries to evaluate consumer willingness-to-pay(WTP) for sea mustard with enhanced heavy metal safety. The evaluation of WTP was conducted using a contingent valuation method. After setting virtual market for sea mustard with enhanced heavy metal safety, respondents were asked their WTP through 3 types of question:direct question, payment card, and dichotomous choice. The average WTP was calculated using analytical median, nonnegative mean, and truncated mean. The results show that the average WTPs for sea mustard with enhanced safety of lead, cadmium, and arsenic are 1,914, 1,659, and 1,701 Korean won, and the entire consumer utility by measuring household base is, respectively, 35.8, 31.0, and 31.8 billion Korean won. These estimates are equivalent to the consumer utility for enhanced heavy metal safety which will be a valuable information for estimating benefit from policies of heavy metal safety for other seaweeds or marine products. We also confirmed that estimated WTP differs by different question type and calculation method, and direct question method yields the largest value of WTP. This suggests that one can reduce bias for estimating WTP by using the average from different question types and calculation methods.
