The aim of this project was to determine the characteristics between fall risk determinant(FRD) and asymmetry of plantar pressure over both feet in the elderly fall Low risk group(LRG) and High risk group(HRG).
LRG and HRG were classified in criterion that static balance(one legged standing) record(10sec). It was measured and recorded that participants maintained a quiet stance on the pressure platform for 30 seconds. The mean, maximum, minimum, range, and distance of plantar center of pressure(COP) over mediolateral(AP, x-axis) and anteroposterior(AP, y-axis) were computed. And asymmetry of COP variables between left foot(LF) and right foot(RF) were caculated. Independent t-Test performed to classify LRG and HRG, and correlation(Pearson, both sides) between FRD and asymmetry variable in each group were performed, and statistical siginificance level was set to .05.
LRG showed range and distance of COP smaller than HRG in over AP and ML. Also, distance of RF COP in LRG was smaller than HRG(p<.05). In LRG, COP asymmetry over both feet in ML had correlation with FRD. On the other hand, it showed correlation with FRD that COP asymmetry over both feet in AP and ML(p<.05).
LRG and HRG of eldery fall, each group self-organized the body to maintain a static balane(quiet stance) which represents the characteristic of fall risk in each group.
