The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in exercise performance between these two exercise methods by placing the target heart rate(THR) exercise intensity at 15 and 25 minutes during 30 minutes of aerobic treadmill exercise at an individual’s target heart rate intensity. It was possible to examine the cardiopulmonary function factors and the level of blood lactate concentration. The subjects were 8 male college students (aged 24.1±2.64 yr., height 174.8±12.96 ㎝, weight 72.7±11.02 ㎏) who were physically healthy and understood the contents of this study and consented to voluntary participation. Prior to this experiment, each individual’s heart rate reserve(HRR) was measured, and a THR was set using this. The average target heart rate for all of them was 158±2.92 beat/min. In the experimental procedure, each subject set the position at the time of reaching the target heart rate in two different ways, and repeated exercise was randomly performed for the same time for 30 minutes. After two mothods of aerobic treadmill exercise, cardiopulmonary function factors(VO₂, R, VE, MET) and blood lactate concentration were measured and the differences between these methods were compared. The research results are as follows. Looking at the oxygen intake, at 15 min time point, they were 39 and 27 L/min/kg, respectively and there was a statistically significant difference between the two methods(p<.001). The respiratory rate was .98 and .91 at the 15-min time point, there was a statistically significant difference between the two methods(p<.001). 25-min time point, too(p<.05). Ventilation volume was 75 and 50 L, respectively, at 15 min time point, there was a statistically significant difference between the two methods(p<.01). MET was 12 and 7, respectively, at 15 min time point, there was a statistically significant difference between the two methods(p<.001). The blood lactate concentration at 5-min intervals, both methods showed a gradual increase, and only 6.13 and 3.36 at 20 min, showing a statistically significant difference between the two methods(p<.01). In particular, through the R value, it is considered that the case where the THR is set in front of the exercise indicates that anaerobic metabolism is relatively higher in the early stage of exercise compared to the case where it is set at the end of the exercise.
