A typical property of relative clauses is that they have a gap. However, the Internally Headed Relative Clause (IHRC) appears to have no gap. This study argues that the IHRC has a gap, but it is not easily noticeable because it is generated in a Caseless position. The main claim of this article is that the IHRC is a free relative clause with a Caseless argument raised. Implicit arguments are not overtly realized, because they cannot be assigned Case. Recently, Cecchetto and Donati (2012) and Chomsky (2013) propose that a dislocated constituent can be the label in the landing site. If this is the case, the implicit argument can be assigned Case in a landing site. This studies claims that the Korean IHRC is a case in point. It is a free relative clause in which an implicit argument becomes the head in the landing site, and so it can be assigned Case, and consequently can be overtly realized as kes.
