Both Korea and China are actively promoting new industries in response to the fourth industrial revolution. China has already advanced beyond Korea’s technology level in some new areas such as electric vehicle(EV), autonomous driving, drones, robots, artificial intelligence (AI), system LSI, and cloud computing. The important thing is that China’s growth will accelerate in the future, which is a serious threat to Korea’s industry. In addition, China is trying to apply key technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to its existing major industries in order to strengthen manufacturing competitiveness.
In order for Korea to improve its industrial response and competitiveness in response to China’s rapid growth, it needs to first understand the development status of China’s new industrial sector and strategies of the Chinese new industry. Identifying China’s new industrial policies and industrial trends that will form a strong competitor, and comparing China’s competitiveness level will help Korea’s industries to prepare a strategy to overcome China.
The main objectives of this study are as follows. The first is to understand trends and changes in Chinese new industry and related policies as the fourth industrial revolution era arrives. The secon is to develop strategies to overcome competition with China or maintain the gap with China through comparisons of industrial ecosystem and competitiveness levels. The Third is to understand how the existing Chineses main industries are influenced by the fourth industrial revolution and how they respond.
The subject areas of this research are five fields such as system LSI, robot, artificial intelligence, big data, and 5G mobile communication among the new industry related to the 4th Industrial Revolution. First, we compare the trends and characteristics of Korean and Chinese markets and analyze the industrial ecosystem. And we introduce the industrial policies of Korea and China in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and compare its features between two countries.
We compare the competitiveness of the five industries in terms of technology, ecosystem and industrialization capacity. In addition, we analyze the cases of innovative companies in five industries and draw implications. Finally, considering the future development potential of the two countries, we will seek ways to cooperate with the Korean and Chinese industries.
