This study aims to propose the policy to solve the difficulties faced by the small mid sized Enterprises(SMEs) in the northeastern region of Gyeonggi Province. To do this, The focus group interview(FGI) was conducted with SMEs in the northeastern region of Gyeonggi-do. As a result of the FGI, recruitment is commonly recognized as the most urgent problem, and unrealistic loan requirement conditions of financial institutions are suggested in terms of difficulty in raising funds.
In addition, as a result of the study, SMEs emphasized that insufficient transportation infrastructure and excessive regulation in the northeastern region of Gyeonggi Province are seriously limiting their business activities. Also, They complained that there is difficulties in tax rates, rents, logistics costs, and cooperative relationships with large firms in all areas. By industry, there was a difference between manufacturing and logistics warehousing industry in terms of factors for declining sales.
Logistics companies in the northern Gyeonggi region evaluate the expected profit rate to be low in carrying out large-scale hub construction projects in northern Area of Gyeonggi due to the lack of housing land and industrial complexes. Logistics companies need market expansion because they are under excessive competition, but they believe that this depends entirely on the government’s infrastructure investment.
Difficulties by region showed that there are differences in the northwest-eastern region and northern regions of Gyeonggi province. In the case of the northern Gyeonggi region, costs such as tax rate, rent, and logistics were mainly emphasized, while SMEs in the northwest and eastern regions emphasized R&D investment, production linkage to the research and use of common equipment. In particular, companies in the eastern area of Gyeonggi Province, which are mostly exporting companies, suggested the lack of foreign market information, difficulties in finding customers, currency instability during export, and the need to attend international technology exhibitions.
