The purpose of this study is to identify the considerations of apartment unit planning during the COVID-19 pandemic and to understand residents’ areas of interest and preferences through eye tracking experiments using key spatial images created accordingly. Eye tracking experiments were conducted using fixed typed equipment for apartment residents over the age of 20, and a follow-up questionnaire was conducted to investigate the reasons and preferences for looking at areas of interest. The results of this study are as follows. First, in the case of the ‘hygienic entrance’, the area of interest was high in the order of dry sink, clean zone, and disinfection cabinet, and in terms of ‘multifunctional’ LDK, the area of interest was high in the order of balcony linked to LDK, multifunctional space between kitchen and living room, and sliding door planning. In the case of ‘variable’ master bedrooms, the area of interest was high in the order of sliding doors, movable partition plans, and home office plans, with differences in user preferences. Interest in ‘nature-friendly’ balconies was high, followed by home cafes and balcony plans that provide pleasant views and breezes, and the areas of interest and preferences coincided. Through this eye tracking technique, it was possible to measure the unconscious perception of users in the main space of apartment units during the pandemic, and we intend to conduct research to derive future residential space planning directions in consideration of differences in preferences.
