This paper is devoted to study the event and structure of A. Chekhov’s play <Uncle Vanya>: Based on the concept of the event, the structure of the event in play, changes brought about by the event, and the way of representing the changes in text are analyzed, and the structure of the event and the play is compared. In the play, the event begins when a professor and his wife arrived at the estate and ends when they departed for the city; their arrival radically changes the everyday life of the manor and its residents. In <Uncle Vanya>, the event and its influences, on the one hand, are communicated to the reader through direct, verbal explanations of characters, in which their actions are extremely reduced; the characters convey changes in daily life as well as their mental crises in words becoming soliloquies of their own. On the other hand, the event and its influences - episodes of love and shootings - are presented through theatrical actions of the characters on stage. When comparing the event and the structure of the play, one of the characteristics of <Uncle Vanya> is the discrepancy between the time of the event and the time of the play: The former precedes the latter by about one month. Another structural characteristic of the play is the incongruity between the structure of event and the structure of the play. In general, a event is built on the temporal structure, whereas scenes of Chekhov's play are based on the spatial structure. As a result, a dissonance arose between the two, what gave Chekhov's play an unconventional character.
