The purpose of this study is to explore the so-called “experiencer paradox” in English raising constructions and provide an appropriate analysis for it. In this paper, I propose a multidominance analysis for the English experiencer argument based on the fact that it has the dual nature of PP and DP. More specifically, this analysis explains the reason the intervention effect is not violated when the subject of subordinate clause moves beyond the experiencer argument to Spec-TP of the main clause, and at the same time explains the reason the experiencer argument c-commands all the elements in the subordinate TP. In particular, assuming a strictly cyclic operation in relation to the binding theory, I have analyzed both the anaphora binding constructions and the bound variable pronoun constructions.
