This paper aims to examine how Gloria Naylor heals black women who have suffered from multi-layered oppression and pain, such as class discrimination, racism, and sexuality discrimination, in Bailey’s Cafe. Black women who have been oppressed by sexuality since childhood have not been able to grow up properly. Sadie, who was forced to engage in prostitution due to her mother, cannot have true love even if she meets her loved one. Peaches, who internalizes social definition for women, divides into two egos and damages her body. Sweet Esther, who was forcibly sold by her brother, refuses to communicate with people and does not come out of the basement. Eve, who lived a controlled life for the Godfather, is born as a new subject through the discovery of sexuality. Eve respects her body and recognizes its value. Eve, who has secured subjectivity through the discovery of sexuality, gives dignity to black women through spirituality and tries to heal the community. Eve heals hurt black women through rituals at Bailey’s cafe. Naylor grants dignity to women whose sexuality has been damaged in Bailey’s Cafe.
